The Ransom Notes: Precision of Classical, Steeped in Homegrown Tradition
I don’t know if performers have ever taken requests during the Beartrap Summer Festival, but if it’s possible, I’ve got one for The Ransom Notes. I’m listening to/watching their video for their instrumental song “Catharsis” and it’s kind of amazing. 2 fiddles and a cello(!), with lots of fast finger and bow work, and a little syncopation thrown in for good measure.
The Jon Stickley Trio: Defying Genre Through Cinematic Instrumentals
I started by listening to their song “Echolocation” on YouTube…and a few moments in, it struck me that these cats are an instrumental band! Why the exclamation point at the end of that sentence? Because let’s face it – as much as I love good vocals and great harmonies, sometimes it’s really fun/interesting/relaxing/invigorating (and many other adjectives) to hear, really hear, the instrumentation.
Whippoorwill: Strong Female-Fronted Alterna-Folk Music
Hankerin’ for some strong female-fronted alterna-folk music? Hanker no more – we here at the Beartrap Summer Festival present…Whippoorwill, a folk-rock trio out of Fort Collins.
The Riverside: Weaving a Tapestry of Sound
Closing my eyes and listening to The Riverside feels like lounging outside in the sun on a perfect summer day.
